The Orihuela poet Miguel Hernandez published his first book of poems at the age of 23 .He was born into a poor family and he received little formal education,so this was quite an amazing feat.

During the Spanish Ciovil War he campaigned in favour of the Republic but after the Republican surrender he was unable to escape Spain,He was arrested many times and was eventually sentenced to death.This was later commuted to a life long prison sentence,he died in prison in 1942.He was born in October1910.

Now the daughter in law of the poet has made it known that she is not too happy with the celebrations which are being planned  to celebrate the centenary of his birth.She feels that they are too local and that a more national tribute should be paid.

One of the plans was to release another album,apart from the one planned by the singer Joan Manuel Serrat,also to create a musical.Four years ago various suggestions were sent to town halls across Spain and it seems that there was no response which has upset many people.

There are hopes of a film about the life of the poet with stars such as Kate Winslet,Johnny Depp ,Christian Bale and a famous German director.The plans could include filming in the VCanary Islands and Alicante film studios.All of these things have yet to be resolved.
