European Shags have been found on the cliffs of the Costa Blanca,the Environmental Council has announced that 13 pairs have bred on the cliffs of Las Marinas and four of them have nested for the first time.This has meant a huge increase in the population for this endangered species.It is now hoped that the population will increase even more on the Alicante cliffs.
New colonies were discovered at Montgo Natural park,Peñon de Ifach,Sierra Gelada and Cabo de la Nao.These areas are well protected and offer the birds plenty of fish to eat.The largest colony is at Cabo St Antonio.European Shags can be seen in Spain from December to April during the breeding season.
