Valencia´s America´s Cup

BMW Oracle has won the 33nd America´s Cup in valencia on the costa Azahar. They beat Alinghi, the team being challenged by 2-0.It is the first time that an American team has won the Cup since 1992.

After a failed attempt in Aukland in 2003 and another failed attempt in 2007 in Valencia the Oracle software giant, who is the fourth richest man in the world, has seen his dream come true.

Russel Coutts was headhunted to come in and take over a virtually new crew.He was the one who took new Zealand to a 5-0 victory in 1995.Ellison spared no money to get just who he wanted and it has paid off .

Coutts has three America Cup victories to his name and he brought in the young Australian James Spithill to take the helm.  This race has not been without its problems with two years of court battles about the venue for the race and the type of boat to be used.Oracle chose the trimarans and their rigid sail won the day.The first race was one by 15 minutes and the second by five minutes.

It now remains to be seen where the next America´s Cup will take place. Some say that the Americans favour Valencia with its “regatta ” style while others feel that they will have the next race in the States.
