Denia Archaeology

Calles Colon and Quevedo in denia have quite literally been the sites for a dig to excavate the past history of denia. The archaeological excavations have been carried out in two stages  under the direction of the expert Carlos monfort and the local archaeological museum. The project has been possible through negotiations between the town hall and the landowner.

The work has uncovered many artifacts proving that many parts go back to Islamic Medina Era in the 12th century.Other objects are related to the 19th and 20th century raisin industry.Walls have been excavated which date back to the 11th century and all of this information is being documented in detail by the archaeological museum.

They have also discovered the remains of two houses dating back to between 1250 and 1275.This work is ongoing and more wonderful artifacts, many almost intact are expected to be found.
