Business owners in Rojales have recently suffered a spate of robberies ,all of them armed and now businesses are wondering just who will be next.They are urging the police to take more action in their defence.
The police are calling the robber the “blue monkey”or Mono Azul.He has carried out five robberies in a month,the latest targeting a gift shop in Urbanizacion Doña Pepa.Each time he carries out the crime in the same manner ,he acts alone and is armed with a hand gun ,his face is covered with a mask to conceal his identity.
He always strikes at dusk when there are fewer people around.Luckily so far there have been no casualties.He has attacked a shop,a kiosk,Chinese bazaar,pharmacy and a supermarket.In the latest attack he was brandishing a gun but it isn´t known if it is a replica or for real or if it is loaded.Each time he has pocketed 200 to 300 euros.
The first robbery was in January where he scooped 500 euros from a kiosk/ tobacconist.Here he held the gun to the head of the owner.Police have urged everyone to remain calm and to inform them straight away if they feel that someone is acting in a suspicious manner.
