Torrevieja´s Consumer Complaints

2009 will be remembered as a year of economic crisis in Spain and in Torrevieja´s Municipal Office of Information for the Consumer it will be remembered as a year when there were many complaints from the public about poor service.

The OMIC received 4984 complaints and reports of poor service or from people seeking advice about how to deal with issues relating to customer service.During February and march of 2009 Iberdrola came in for a great deal of criticism. They changed their accounting system at that time and brought in estimated bills ,in some cases tripling the usage .They also charged people in homes that were unoccupied.A problem which still exists today.

Torrevieja´s councillor for Consumer Affairs announced that of this number ( around 20 complaints a day) ,4000 were asking for some type of information or advice .912 ended up in claims or denunciations.

Many of the number increases in complaints were brought about by the changes in the electricity services. The Councillor praised the department for all of their efforts which in fact led to the office being awarded accreditation by the Council of Industry Commerce and Innovation.
