Last week huge storms hit the north west Spanish coastline.Three people were killed in the hurricane force winds which hit Galicia .An 82 year old woman was killed when a wall was blown over and fell on her.Then a couple were killed in their car when it hit a fallen tree which had been blocking a road near Burgos.People were injured in Vigo and one man had severe injuries when scaffolding fell on him,blown by the wind.The Basque Country was also affected and a crane blew over ,crashing onto a block of flats causing a lot of damage.

The storms affected thousands of people through lack of power,flights were diverted,trains cancelled and people were told to stay off the roads in their cars.The north western region was placed on the highest weather alert when hurricane Xynthia was predicted for the whole of western Europe.

In the Canary Islands gusts of 190 kilometres were recorded then it travelled up the coast of Portugal and Spain going on into France where there was huge damage and flooding.Many people were killed.Millions of homes were without power and the whole region was devastated.
