The Mayor of Benissa addressed a meeting of residents last week to inform them that everything that could be done ,was being done ,to get the new bypass scheme up and running once again. The project was instigated by the central government and the scheme was started but then it stopped abruptly last may when the company building the road went bankrupt. Now vehicles have to negotiate a very busy bottleneck ,causing traffic chaos.
The mayor assured the meeting that the delay had nothing to do with the regional government in Valencia .There had been rumours that they were “hanging on” to documentation which should have been sent to madrid. Not so said the mayor.Neither is it in any way being caused by the local Benissa council. This bypass was the idea of central government and it is they who have to sort it out, said the mayor. All local parties have approved a strong protest to Madrid.
It seems that because of the time delay the project will have to begin from scratch once again.New estimates, new contractors and so on.All of this will take time. They are also pressing for improvements to the road between Benissa and Calpe,a big accident black spot. They are also hoping that the Ministry will do something about that too.
