The very popular frontage of the Arenal in Javea could become a thing of the past .The ley de Costa is being closely adhered to by the coalition javea council and many businesses could face ruin if the demolition orders take place. The orders are to bulldoze the enclosed spaces which most of these bars have,to protect from winter chills. They are classifying these as illegal extensions and the order is to flatten them. Most of the buildings have these extensions and consequently they are an aid to the businesses but also a major attraction for tourists. They place money in the local economy and also the tax coffers of the council.
The first business to receive the 30 day notice of a demolition was the Presidents Bar.It appears that similar orders are in place for the Champagne bar,Cafe Wein and Tapas Para Te.The present owners of the Presidents Bar only heard the news via a TV crew who turned up when the landlord had been served the notification.
In the 1980´s the Arenal closed for the winter months and to stop that happening bars and restaurants enclosed their working spaces and heated them .They then were able to serve the tourists all year around. It is this old law that they are trying to invoke for some reason known only to themselves.
