In May 2007 a 20 monthold babyfrom la Nucia was murdered and the trial of the man accused of the murder has just started in Alicante.The court heard how the man alleged that the baby had fallen in the bath and that he had never laid a hand on her.
The prosecution has stated that the child had been treated at the hospital 4 days earlier with hypothermia and that when the little girl was taken in on the day that she died she had 30 bruises on her body and a burn on her lip.They are alleging that this man had repeatedly hit the child and that the fatal blow was to her head.
The accused has said that the bruises had been caused by other people,not him.He stated that he had asked the mother about the bruises and that she had put them down to falling at school and also to her biological father causing them.
After the death of the little girl the mother returned to Romania and began a relationship with the child´s father.She has since given birth to another child.She and her partner gave evidence to the court via video link.Forensic evidence has said that these injuries could not have been caused by a fall in the bath.Prosecutors are asking for a 17 year prison sentence.The trial continues.
