The weather in Alicante province and the Costa Blanca generally has been cold and sometimes foggy.Recently mists decended on the Costa Blanca coastline and air traffic controllers at Alicante airport had to divert 18 flights.
The flights from national airports and other EU countries were diverted to Valencia,Reus,Ibiza,Almeria,Palma de mallorca,San Javier and Madrid.It appears that El Altet is not equipped to deal with such situations.Fog happens very infrequently on the Costa Blanca and so there is little reason to have such equippment.It may happen just once in a year.
The university at Alicante has stated that this particular type of fog was most unusual and heralded a warm front.It was made up of low clouds that condense when they make contact with the sea,which is at its coldest at this time of the year.The diversions were the only transport problems reported on the day.
