A man from La Nucia near Altea has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the killing of a 20 month old child.Jose Manuel Rodriguez Pozo was found guilty by a jury of killing his partner´s baby girl.He was accused of hitting the child repeatedly at his home in May 2007.
It was shown during the court hearing that the child suffered severe damage to the head which proved fatal.Rodriguez will also have to pay 120,000 euros compensation to the´family of the victim and 8000 euros to the Regional Public health service for the medical attention required by the victim.
The parents of the child are now together again and are living in Romania,their home country.The judge has said that 15 years is the maximum for such a crime.
