The PSOE Party in the Murcia regional government has presented an official petition to the parliament to create a law to legalise assisted suicide.The Andalucia parliament passed a similar law last week.They feel that the decision of the patient and the freedom to do so is paramount.
The law would preserve the dignity and the rights of patients and also offer legal back-up to the doctors and nurses and families who care for the patients.The Murcia government will say that it already has a “Registro de Instrucciones Previas” where the decions of patients can be placed.Almost 2000 people have already registered their requests for certain interventions which they do not wantif they are unable to make decisions for themselves.The law passed in Andalucia enables patients to reject a series of treatments in certain circumstances.
