The coastal train which everyone has been waiting for from Alicante to Valencia will not materialise until 2020.It will be built at a cost of 3000 million euros.The Secretary of State for planning and Infrastructure has met with the councillor for infrastructure and transport to discuss the issues involved in Madrid this week.It was felt that a satisfactory agreement had been reached but it is doubtful that the people of the region will feel the same.

The agreement it appears involves the upgrading of all of the Cercanias suburban train networks in the three Provinces.A new track will be built between Alicante and Murcia,the line between Valencia ,Buñol and Utiel,also with the creation of an extra line plus building a new train line connection between the Vinolopo district and Alicante.The most important part of the whole project is the building of a line between Alicante and valencia.It will be compatible with the AVE high speed rail link.

Central government will fund the modernisation of the existing Valencia -Gandia stretch and its extension towards Oliva and Denia.The regional government will then take charge of a new train line running parallel to the AP-7 .This will mean that the tram line from Alicante to benidorm will remain untouched and will provide the same service as always.

The most important part of all of this is the ability to travel to valencia from Alicante directly.The system which exists at the moment is a nightmare.
