An Alicante man has been accused of kidnapping his lawyer and forcing him to make an official declaration of his innocence.
The man is from the Dominican Republic and the National Police detained him in Alicante. It appears that he abducted his lawyer for a whole day and forced him to read out a statement denouncing the injustice that he had experienced in 2008 when he was found guilty of carrying a firearm.
It was discovered that the defendant had a criminal record, which included failing to return to a detention centre after having been granted a single day pass for his good behaviour.Once he was arrested he did take the police to the house in Alicante where they discovered the lawyer with his hands tied.
It appears that at one point the man had gagged him and had held a gun to his head. That happened when he was forced to make the announcement. The man is now in custody and is awaiting trial at the Alicante Crown Court.
