Recently in Mojacar in Almeria there was a fire which destroyed 3 hectares of hillside and caused 100 people to be evacuated from their homes.

A British expat was helping to extinguish the flames outside some apartments when it is thought that he suffered a heart attack and died.The man was hosing down bushes when he collapsed.He was rushed to the hospital in Mojacar and the Red Cross did attempt to resucitate him but he was declared dead soon after his arrival at the hospital.He was in his sixties.

The fire started quite late in the day and threatened to destroy a number of hillside apartments.Firemen fought hard into the early hours of the morning to put the fire out.It was not officially declared to be extinguished until 12.45 am.

The actual cause of the fire is not known but there are those who say that they saw a group of young children playing with matches and a firework behind the apartments.There have been a number of fires in the area so far this year.They have destroyed over 18 hectares of land.
