Specsavers in Calpe on the Costa Blanca has been asking people to bring in their old glasses for many months now.
Hundreds of pairs have been collected and they have started a journey to help people with sight problems in third world countries.
Specsavers are supporting the International Lions Sightfirst Campaign which was first launched in 1990 to help the rise in blindness around the world.
The President of Calpe and Benissa Lions visited the Specsaver shop in Calpe to pick up more than 500 pairs of old specs for recycling.
Members of the public donated the specs and then they are taken to a factory in Alicante where they are cleaned and sorted before being taken on this occasion,to Africa.
The Lions have estimated that around the world there are some 50 million blind people and that 80% of this blindness is reversible. The President of the Lions has stated just how grateful they are to Specsavers for being a point of contact for donations.
