Last Thursday near Alfaz del Pi the residents of four houses between the El Romerol urbanisation and Forum Mare had to be evacuated from their homes because of a woodland fire.Also the Nostrum complex had to be eevacuated from their properties.
About 5000 square metres of pine forest was destroyed but fortunately no property was destroyed and no persons were injured.
Fire services took almost 2 hours to control the blaze.It is thought that the fire may have been started by a cigarette.
While the Benidorm fire crew was out fighting this blaze there were only three people left in the headquarters and one of those was a telephonist.This highlights two issues.One is the lack of firefighters and the other is the need to educate people about cigarettes.
The sooner people realise that there is an alternative to smoking cigarettes,where they still access their virtually harmless nicotine but have none of the other risks,the better.
