The man,a Moroccan, was renting a house in the town. The police spent a long time in the house searching for evidence. The man was quickly transferred from Benitachell to Madrid. There were at least 20 officers involved in the arrest according to neighbours.
It appears that the man had lived in the community for 7 years. He was very integrated into the life of the town and had actually become a Civil Protection officer. He was always very polite and the community is quite shocked by what has happened. He spoke fluent Spanish and Valenciano.
Since the arrest the Ministry of the Interior has announced that this man is accused of actively supporting Jihadist movements via the internet, organising travel for suspected terrorists to conflict zones in Pakistan,Chechnya and Afghanistan.
He is the owner of a website which actively promotes terrorist activities, aimed at recruiting and indoctrinating supporters.
Of the 4000 inhabitants of Benitachell only 83 are Moroccan. The rest of the 2000 foreigners tend to be British.
