The Spanish egg donor market is reaping the rewards of a country such as the UK where you have to wait up to 2 years for eggs.
Now,rather than wait two years a greater number of people are choosing to visit fertility clinics in Spain.
In the UK there is a shortfall of donors. Many feel that if the government paid more to those who donate their eggs to infertile women, then more would come forward and the problem would go away.
At the moment a woman who donates eggs to a fertility clinic will be paid just over 300 euros which would cover travel and loss of earnings. In Spain an egg donor would receive a 1000 euros. This encourages such people as students who are ideal as they have younger eggs which are usually of better quality. In Spain they also keep the donors anonymous as well as paying them better.
Clinics which offer fertility treatment are found in Almeria,Murcia,Valencia and Marbella.
