Segovia | Roman Remains

In Segovia archaeologists have discovered the remains of a house built in either one or two AD at the time of the High Roman Empire.

The remains have been discovered beneath the main square in Segovia.During excavation work in the Plaza Mayor, which has already revealed the remains of a seventeenth century house, they discovered these Roman remains too.

The archaeologists are working on a theory that this was not a monument but a series of dwellings. One of the rooms has murals and a clay floor and is one of a very few ruins which has been discovered from this period in Segovia.

Segovia has of course the famous Roman aquaduct but these Roman ruins and some others gives a better overview of the town as a Roman settlement.
