The northern shore of the lake at Guardamar del Segura was ablaze last week,smoke billowed across La Mata lake.
The alarm was called in the early afternoon when vegetation was spotted burning inside La Mata-Torrevieja natural park.A strong wind blowing off the sea just fanned the flames.
The concern was that the flames were moving towards an urbanisation.This caused airborne help to be brought in to quell the flames.The planes used water from the lake to drop on the fire.
It took almost 3 hours to put out this particular blaze and then another started up about a kilometre away,so the planes had to come out again.They had to work into the late evening to put this blaze out.
It was not until the following day that the fireservice decided that all was safe,they camped out all night just to ensure that all was safe.The amount of land which was scorched has not been announced.
