Over 100,000 Spanish families have no idea just where the bodies of the loved ones who died during the Spanish Civil War are buried.
Now Amnesty International has said the Spanish Government must make a committment to the families of these people .The family members were taken away and killed and nobody knows where they are.
Amnesty International thinks that the Spanish government should be making it much easier for families to find the remains of their loved ones.
Amnesty International added that the government was still not taking responsibility in investigating grave violations which took place during the Civil War,which were grave violations of human rights, despite the Ley de Memoria Historica,so guaranteeing justice for victims.
AI claims that Spain is not complying with International Law by making such crimes a penal offence as defined by the UN convention on the protection of people who are forcibly removed from their families.
At the end of September a Legislative Initiative will be put in place by Miguel Angel Rodriguez Arias, who is professor of international penal law at the University of Castilla La Mancha. He wants to promote justice for the victims of the Franco regime.
