All three provincial fire brigades in the Valencia Region have called off their protests after they met with the union representitives and regional and provincial politicians last week.
The dispute was about insufficient staffing, working conditions and pay.The disputes have taken place during a time when fires have raged in the region.
The meeting ended with an agreement to form a working group which will convene at the beginning of September.
The regional government has agreed to make some adjustments to its budget to cover its 30% share of a pay rise which was agreed in 2008.They have agreed to do this by the end of the year.
There was some scepticism shown by Torrevieja who rightly stated that none of the 2008-2011 agreements had yet been met.He claimed that there are still no fixed working hours and that some overtime pay has not been paid from way back.He also claimed that agreements over such things as social security, insurance and the like have not been achieved from 2004.
