In 2007 the Spanish index on the stock market , Ibex -35 , was at 16,000 and then the Spanish economic crisis began to bite.In 2011 the year ended with the index at 8,566.3 which was similar to 2008 but it was down by 13.11 % for the year.It was yet another troubled year for stocks in the continuing economic crisis in Europe. However Spain did fare better than most other Europeanstock markets.
Germany was hit hard where the DAX was down by 14.69% and France where the CAC-40 dropped 16.96%. Italy gared worst of all where the Milan stock market fell 25.2 %.
Only the British stock market fared better than Spain with the Footsie down a relatively minor 5.5%.
However the 2011 Ibex -35 drop of 13% came on top of a drop of 17 % in 2010.The largest drop was in 2008 with a huge drop of 39 % after having reached that massive total of 16,000.
