The year 2012 could be a bright one for El Altet airport in Alicante on the Costa Blanca in Spain. The Spanish airport authority has said that they have received 15% more requests for flight slots and this includes new operators flying to 14 of the 15 destinations which Ryanair , the budget airline , has withdrawn from.
Ryanair has not yet responded to the latest court ruling which did not uphold their appeal about the use of telescopic airbridges.Neither have they responded to AENA´s idea of using buses to transport their passengers on the runways .
However during February and March Ryanair is running flights between El Altet and variously previously withdrawn airports such as Bournmouth , Kerry and Knock. They will also offer direct flights to Norway , Lithuania , Maastricht in Holland and Sweden .
Between April and October the low cost airline Wow Air will run flights twice weekly between Alicante and Reykjavik and Zurich in Switzerland.Wow Air will also be incorporating Icelandair and Iceland Express making Alicante the Spanish airport with the best links with Iceland.
Jet 2 will open a route to Edinburgh and will increase the number of flights to Belfast , East Midlands and Newcastle.
EasyJet , BmiBaby ,Scandinavian Airlines ,Norwegian Airlines ,Air Berlin ,Siberia Airlines and Aeroflot will all be working out of El Altet.Last year 10 million people passed through the airport. This was an increase of half a million passengers.
