The current scandal within the Spanish royal family has taken its toll on all who live within the Zarzuela Palace , as indeed it would in most families.The son-in-law of King Juan Carlos has been alleged to have been involved in the misuse of public funds and corruption.

However the high appreciation with which the Spanish people view King Juan Carlos and Prince Felipe has kept the royal family high in the latest opinion polls.The public image of the son-in-law id regarded as “poor” or “very poor ” in the eyes of 74% of those who were asked.

In contrast King Juan Carlos and Prince Felipe come out as “good ” or ” very good ” by 76% of those who were asked.

Over half of those people asked felt that the royal family had dealt with the alleged corruption allegations in the correct manner.Amongst those over the age of 65 ,70% are in support of the monarchy in Spain and just 17% are against it.However in the younger age groups those in favour drops considerably to 48% in favour and 45% against.

During the King´s Christmas speech he referred to “justice is equal to everyone ” in an obvious referral to his son-in-law.Eighty one percent of those taking part in the survey felt that this was not true.They did not agree with King Juan Carlos on that one.
