The coasts of the Valencia province and the Costa Blanca have been experiencing some very unseasonable weather with temperatures as high as 24 degrees from Valencia down to Alicante. The warm weather was accompanied by strong winds and they gusted up to 110 kilometres in places.
The wind caused some damage as it uprooted trees and fences and caused many roads to be blocked. They also fanned a few fires and is thought to have been the cause of at least two.Firefighters were on call for fires but also on call for the removal of a lot of debris.
In Valencia they helped to remove a corrugated sheet roof which if it had become dislodged might have caused a great deal of damage to other properties and also the public. They also restored some scaffolding which had buckled.
The winds were less intense in Alicante province but the combination of high winds and warm weather is always a worry with fire.In a ravine near Torrent around 1.5 hectares of scrub was destroyed by fire and another happened in Santa Pola de las Salinas. They had to call in the water planes to quell that one.
