The Alicante province roads could have icy patches as winter temperatures have kicked in in the last week.Drivers have been warned to drive carefully early in the morning and late at night , particularly on inland roads and in the hills. There has been a severe drop in overnight temperatures in the province.
Naturally secondary roads and inland roads are far more prone to icy conditions than are the main highways. The temperatures have been plummeting dramatically at night over the last week and sub zero temperatures have been recorded. One road which is particularly at risk is near Alcoy and is the access road to Font Roja. The curves in the road and the ice made it a difficult road to travel on last week.
If temperatures continue to drop then farmers are prepared to fear the loss of crops that are not protected. So far the damage has been minimal but should the cold snap continue then there could be a much greater loss and this would force up the price of fruit and vegetables.
