Balearic Islands | Ibiza

Ibiza town was one of the first in Europe and was discovered by the Carthaginians in 654.It is now the capital of Ibiza an island in the Balearics.Ibiza town was an important trading centre. The Salinas which were set up by the Carthaginians are still used to extract salt from sea water by evaporation.

In this modern day and age Ibiza has become known as a partying island but this really only applies to Ibiza Town and San Antonio. In fact the reputation that it has would keep most folk away from those places during the summer months. One wonders how the locals survive it all.

However , get away from those places and there are still villages which are untouched by time. There are ferries from the mainland at ports such as Denia on the Costa Blanca and of course from ports such as Valencia and Barcelona too.

If people choose to stay away from the main towns then there are often water taxis to take you from place to place and also there are bus services which are also cheap.

Maybe the spring and autumn and even the winter are the times for people who are not in the party mood to visit this Balearic Island as the all night revellers will be safely elsewhere.
