Skyscanner is an internet based holiday search group and they have just finished a study which indicates that 88% of those Brits interviewed were thinking about moving abroad in the next five years and that a Spanish destination was the one most favoured to begin a new way of life.
The fact is that Spain is a second best option for the Brits. They would mainly prefer to go to Australia but because the immigration laws are so stringent it deters most from even bothering to apply.
The reasons for so many thinking about moving abroad is the economic situation in Britain. They think that housing will be cheaper and that there will be better job opportunities. In Spain there is certainly the opportunity to purchase a home at a much reduced price if you have cash in your pocket. However jobs are another thing as the unemployment rate in Spain is higher than just about anywhere else and the economic situation is far more dire than in the UK.
Certainly the climate is wonderful and the lifestyle totally different and very appealing. The worrying thing about the survey is that the age group that is thinking of setting up abroad are in the 18 to 45 range. If too many of these left then the UK would begin to have a very aging population with too few youngsters to prop up the system financially.
