The Valencia regional government has approved a decree and has included important modifications to development procedures.These new pieces of information are currently being sent to town halls in the region.

It allows town halls to sell off municipal assets and use the money to build “any sort of infrastructure for any public service and not just for social housing as was previously the case “.This is the move which the construction industry has been waiting for stated the Regional Councillor for Infrastructure ,Land and the Environment.

Before the economic crisis hit Spain most municipalities all over the Valencia region had town plans with huge developments.Virtually all of these have been sidelined as construction companies have been unable to get bank loans. Now they are talking of splitting them up as the large developments are no longer viable.They now want smaller housing projects.

The Vice-President of AUN , the property rights group sees this as no different than previously held concepts in that “if we build then people will come and buy “.He says that there is no guarantee that people will buy and most are in places where no Spanish person would buy as they are too far away from amenities.Quite rightly he questions who is going to finance this when the banks are barely keeping their heads above water.
