Antonio Campinos is the president of the patents office in Alicante on the Costa Blanca and he has just announced that in 6 months time the European observatory against piracy will be in operation from its new headquarters in the city.
The office will be staffed by 100 EU civil servants and on top of that it will create another 100 jobs.This anti-piracy agency will be responsible for tackling the ever growing problem of falsifying goods with brand names.They will work towards prosecution of those who manufacture fake goods both individuals and organisations.These are people who avoid paying taxes.
The project to extend the patents office will cost around 60 million euros.Since its inauguration the patents office has registered more than a million products.They dealt with 100,000 in 2011.It is one of the few organisations which has made a significant profit.
The new building will house a 430 seater auditorium and will hold events to attract big spending clients.
