Alicante | Tram Rail Service

Alicante on the Costa Blanca has a metropolitan area which is covered by a Tram rail transport system and in 2011 it hit record number of passengers and passed the 6 million mark.Official figures have shown that 6,094,960 people travelled on the four routes which the service covers.Line 3 which is the Luceros-Venta La Nuza route took first place with two and a quarter million passengers.Second place for numbers was the Luceros-Benidorm route with almost 2 million and third place went to Luceros to Playa de San Juan which carried just over a million passengers.Bringing up the rear was the Benidorm to Denia route with three quarters of a million passengers.

A TRAM official said that in 2007 the total number of passengers using the service was  registered as 2,726,882 and that the 2011 figure has more than doubled that.

It is thought that this indicates how passenger confidence has grown in four years.More people are now prepared to leave their cars behind and use public transport.
