Villena is a small town inland from Benidorm on the Costa Blanca.The attempted “snatch ” took place in the early evening just after a mother had collected her 3 year old from the nursery.
As they were walking along a van drew up alongside them and the driver attempted to distract the mother as another man , who had his face covered , got out of the van and opened the rear doors.It seemed that he was about to snatch the child and place him inside the van.
The mother rushed towards her little boy , scooped him up and then the van sped off.The woman reported the matter to the police and said that the men had attempted to assault her and swore at her.
The parents of the child took part in a reconstruction of events later in the week as the police have launched an enquiry into the case. Local parents are being warned to be extra vigilant until a solution to the case has been found.
