Spanish “Gay Rights ” associations across Spain have demanded that the Spanish government break off all diplomatic ties with the Vatican in Rome.

Earlier this month the Pope Benedict , before 180 diplomats criticised same sex marriages by saying that “policies which damage the family threaten human dignity and the future of humanity”.In Spain ,gay marriage was legalised in 2005.

The President of the State Federation of Lesbians , Gays , Transexuals and Bisexuals has said that the words were “despicable ” and “nothing more than another demonstration of irrational hate “.They are asking that the Spanish Prime Minister condemn the statement and cut diplomatic relations with the Vatican.

However the left wing Izquierda Unida party said that the “intolerant and antidemocratic ” posture of the Catholic Church was “in agreement with the position of the PP government”.
