The bus service in Alicante on the Costa Blanca could be on the verge of collapse.Bus fares have gone up and there has been a massive cut in the number of journeys that a retired person can make , using a bus pass.The number is down from 90 to just 12.The city council doesn´t seem to have any idea just how much money it requires to stop this collapse.

In the past the bus service has been subsidised by the regional government who met about 75% of the costs.Regional government has reduced their input dramatically and Alicante is left footing 82% of the cost.It is this which has caused the huge bus fare increases and the cutting of journeys for the retired.

In San Juan they have had to take similar steps and there the number of journeys for OAP´s has been reduced to 60.There could be more cuts and more price hikes on the way.
