The Lions Clubs were founded in 1917 by Melvin Jones , in Chicago , and the Costa Blanca Lions Club in Jalon and Orba celebrated the birthday of Melvin Jones last week.He would be 133 by now but the fact that he founded the Club was worth a celebration.
The celebration took place at a cafe in the shopping centre in Ondara , near Denia on the Costa Blanca.
Members from three local clubs attended the celebrations , as well as the Jalon and Orba members there were people from Teulada -Moraira and Calpe-Benissa.
These clubs do an inordinate amount of great charity work across the world and consequently celebrating the birth of the man whose idea it all was was well in order.
The next Lions event will be on February 19 when there will be an Almond Blossom walk in Jalon at 10.45 to begin at 11.There is no charge for the walk but naturally small donations would be very welcome to help local charities.
