The new Placa de la Mare de Deu del Carme has been opened to the public in Campello .
The 6000 square metre square has been created on the site of of the Gallo Rojo fiesta rooms between Calle San Bartolome and Avenida de Alcoy .
The plaza is connected to a green zone , has a childrens park , an area full of palm trees plus a shady seated area with an ornamental fountain .

Alicante and Elche councils made a proposal to the government that they should have an AVE train station at the airport .
This has been turned down by the public works minister and also her counterpart in Valencia .
The argument is that changing the plans now would delay the project by up to five years . Every aspect of a new development would need to be followed through once again .
The AVE is going directly to Alicante City and the local public works councillor is not going to debate the matter further .
However others in the commercial sector have backed the proposal and say that the station is not due in Alicante until 2015 so there is plenty of time to make adjustments .

Gran Alacant , near Santa Pola , is now officially made up of 50 % foreign residents .
They cover the whole spectrum of Europe and also some South American countries .
The figures were released by the town council this week and the population has increased by 6 % this year alone .
There are now over nine thousand residents in this small fishing village .Most of the foreign influx comes from the UK, 50%of the foreigners are from Britain .
There are now 120 businesses in the town owned and run by foreign nationals . A new school has been built to cope with the influx .

More than 60 million in unpaid tax is the allegation against companies dealing in luxury cars in Alicante , Valencia , Madrid and Gaudalajara .
It involves the importation of cars from Germany , Holland and Belgium and unpaid VAT.
Police have seized more than 37 cars , including Porche , Mercedes , Lexus , BMW, Maserati and Jaguar . They have also seized two yachts ,cash , watches , documents and frozen 81 bank accounts and embargoed 81 properties .

There was also a 4% rise in the number of flights handled in Alicante , almost 72,000 .
Nationally almost 179 million passengers moved through Spanish airports .

The town of Gran Alacant has needed some improvements to its infrastructure for a while and now the Santa Pola council decided to go ahead with a variety of projects .
Pavements will be remade and many widened . Flood channels will have their capacity increased .At the moment excessive rain water goes into shops and businesses rather than into the ravine .
Trees and other plants will be planted in a ravine which has been much neglected in the past .
Some work has already begun and the rest will be completed as quickly as possible .

Representitives of 12 Mediterranean countriesmet in Santa Pola last week to discuss the effects of climate change and marine biodiversity .
The conference was arranged by the regional centre of the United Nations Mediterranean action plan .
Each representitive of a country described the state of the sea around their coastline , hopefully enabling them all to cooperate against the effects of climate change .
This workshop will be the first of many and the information collected will be collated at Alicante University , out of that will come some recommendations for the way forward .

There have been demonstrations , sit- ins , parental and student protests . Teachers have also threatened to strike if something isn’t done to rectify the situation .
Last week more than 6000 people across Alicante Province demonstrated against this citizenship couse which must be taught in English .
The proposal at this demonstration was that all students should be given an automatic pass when the exam comes around next year .
The students do not have enough knowledge of English and neither do the teachers . This is a situation where problems are guaranteed to occur .
