The Javea Book Circle gave a reading of ” Adress Unknown ” in Benissa last week .
They did it in collaboration with La Seu Universitaria de la Marina which is based in the old town .
The book was written in 1938 by the American writer Katherine Kressman Taylor and is about racism and its destructive powers It takes the form of a series of letters .
This is the third time that it has been performed on the Costa Blanca ..

Last week the British police issued a ” Most Wanted ” list of criminals living on the Costa Blanca . The police were working with the Spanish police in an effort to find them .
A member of the public in Javea telephoned the police to say that they thought that they had spotted two of them in a cafe.
Police followed up the information and later arrested two of the fugitives at a villa in Benissa .
The two will be returned to the UK to face the British courts .

A large quantity of cash has been set aside in the 2009 budget by the Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport for major development works in the Marina Alta and Javea is due to receive 22 million for the expansion of the port .
It would also include an upgrade of the marina in Denia and a major piece of work in Calpe town centre plus repairs to Les Bassetes area in Benissa .
In reality the 38 million euros set aside would barely cover 3 % of the costs .

The announcement about the Javea project has really caused concern to those who are lobbying against it . It now seems that despite the protests , the regional government is going ahead with it .
A series of robberies have been carried out on the AP7 toll roads in Benissa , San Juan and Villajoyosa and now the Guardia Civil have arrested three men in Alfaz del Pi concerning the robberies .
The three are part of a larger gang who pose as police officers and intimidate their victims and stole from them .
The men were Iranian and Pakistani and when their living quarters were searched a lot of stolen items were found .
The three had been arrested in France , Germany and Italy on similar charges .
Other towns in the region have cut the wages of councillors by 10% in order to cut costs . The PSOE party is asking the mayor of Benissa to do the same .
They feel that the recent announcement to freeze taxes is just a political gimmick and will not have any long term effect .
Income has dropped by 24 % and the 2009 budget costs do not warrent keeping the wages at the present level .
Most of Benissa residents earn about 1000 euros each month , while councillors are earning 35,000 euros a year .
The government funds the Emaus Childrens home in Benissa but there is still a need for all the extras .
The Calpe and Benissa Lions are arranging a sponsored swim at the municipal pool on November 8 .
Many youngsters from Laude Lady Elizabeth School in Jalon have already signed up for the event .
When a mother and her adult son got into difficulties on the beach at La Fustera it took two police officers from Benissa to rescue them .
The 21 year pld had been trying to help his mother , who had got into difficulties and the current was too strong for him to help her and he also got into difficulties .
The police officers had responded to a 112 call and judged that there was not enough time to call the emergency services so they went into the sea themselves .

When they brought the couple ashore a crowd had gathered and they were given a heroes welcome .
They have now been awarded bravery medals by Benissa council .
The weather was terrible and yet more than 100 people braved the storm to attend the Benissa and Calpe Lions Flamenco Night in Calpe at El Bolero restaurant .
Supper of paella and then the programme of dancing provided a most enjoyable evening . Many of the guests giving it a go themselves .
The evening raised more than 500 euros for charity providing Christmas gifts for children in the area .

Police in a patrol car in Benissa signified to a car that they wanted it to pull over but the car refused to do so and a chase ensued .
The car being chased then crashed into a parked car on the Avenida del Pais Valencia and the three men on board suffered serious injuries .
The driver was treated by paramedics at the scene but needed to be taken to Alicante by helicoptor because of serious head injuries .
The other two had multiple injuries and were taken to Denia hospital.
The scheduled two evenings of entertainment at the Benissa International Festival had to be reduced to one because of the rearrangement of the event .
The Costa Blanca Male Voice Choir made its debut at the concert and the audience enjoyed a repertoire of songs that was broad , from songs from the musicals to more traditional airs .
There are now 30 members in the choir but they are hoping to swell their numbers in the future and the group will then acquire much more depth of tone .
