British Embassy and Consular staff throughout Spain attended Remembrance Day services .
In Barcelona there was a ceremony at the Parish Church of St Andrew , near Figueras . It was organised by the Costa Brava Branch of the British Legion .
A service has been held here for the last 12 years and usually more than 100 people attend .
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria a similar service took place at the Holy Trinity Church . The Vice -Consul read the roll of honour at the service .
In Palma , Mallorca it was the British Consul who attended and gave a short reading .

There was a rise of 7% in the number of passengers during the first 10 months of 2008 and so far it has handled almost 9 million passengers .
There was also a 4% rise in the number of flights handled in Alicante , almost 72,000 .
Nationally almost 179 million passengers moved through Spanish airports .

When you are about to get married and you are celebrating on your stag weekend then there is never a thought of tragedy .
However last weekend a young man fell to his death from the balcony of flat in Lloret de Mar on the Costa Brava .
Spanish authorities are investigating the death of the 25 year old .
His friends were all questioned and then returned to the UK on the Sunday .
The man was planning to marry in February .
The Benidorm versus Barcelona match tickets were 50 euros a piece and the Orihuela game against Real Madrid was 45 or 60 euros .
This could have been a reason for the crowds staying away , half filled stadiums never have any atmosphere .
The two matches were foregone conclusions as to who was going to win and here in Spain the teams from the lesser leagues never seem to have much of a chance .

The ” Viejas Glorias ” football tournament is now a firm fixture in the Alfaz del Pi calendar , indicating the council’s committment to sport of a high quality .

The new Ley de Costas is causing a great deal of concern for those with houses close to shore lines .
Already homes are being demolished on the Costa Brava and Costa del Sol and all of the Costa’s are at risk .
Consequently a group has been formed by those people who are affected and they have met with environment officials in Madrid to try to find a solution to the thousands of properties which could be demolished .
They can be found all along the Spanish coastline as they have now been assessed as being within the boundries and subject to demolition .
