Cartagena’s Roman theatre and museum is open , during the summer from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 8 pm .
On a Sunday it is open from 10am until 2pm. This city reached great heights during this Roman period and the excavations have revealed three ancient alters which give some insight into the culture of the time .
The alters are made of Italian marble , from a quarry which is still producing marble 2000years later .It is thought that these alters were carved in Rome and brought to Cartagena .
The alters are in an amazing state of preservation considering that they are over 2000 years old .
specially trained police officers , on horseback , will be patrolling the natural parks of Murcia from now on .
They are there to help visitors to access the parks , particularly to the most difficult parts .
They are also there as protectors of the environment , both the living and also the archaeological sites .
The regional director feels that their presence is vital and the horses do not do any damage to the tracks .They will be working in the Vias Verdes near Mula , in the salt lakes near San Pedro del Pinatar and in the Calablanque natural park .
An eagle eyed resident of La Manga spied someone on the beach passing a package to someone else and reported it .
The tourist from Madrid was found to be in possession of hashish . He was on the beach with his wife and young family .
He claimed to the police that he had found the drugs on the beach .
The police took him to the hole where the exchange had taken place and recovered another block of hashish which he had been seen leaving there .

The Mar Menor is nearly free of jellyfish it was announced recently .
However as they are part of the ecosystem they cannot be eliminated entirely and they are part of the balance needed .

Telefonica is the multi national telecommunication giant of Spain . It has a monopoly in Spain and according to a British business woman from Murcia the company needs to get itself into the twenty first century .
She has taken her complaints to an MEP who is vice -chairperson the European Parliament’s petitions committee.
She claims that they do not provide customers with a reliable and informative support service and that they only communicate in Spanish. She also claims that her business in Los Alcazares has suffered because of this attitude .

On September 20 a team of volunteers will help to clean up Calblanque natural park as part of the International Clean-Up the World Day . This has been announced by the regional environmental department .
The team of volunteers will all be provided with T-shirts, caps and a lunch on the beach.
There will also be transport provided from Cartagena to Calblanque .
The Ifepa exhibition hall in Torre Pacheco on the Costa Calida will be the venue for a beauty competition for dogs .
There will be a special catwalk installed and the competition will take place at the end of November .
International and national championships will be contested during the week of the competition .
Clubs and training schools for dogs from all over Spain will be taking part , including the Guardia Civil rescue dogs . They will be giving an exhibition of their work . This show is one of the most popular in Europe .

A totally senseless killing took place in La Manga, Murcia , on August 10.
A father of three , out shopping for bread , was accused by a martial arts fanatic of scratching this man’s car .
The 42 year old said he knew nothing about it but instead of walking away , the 20 year old started to beat the older man —kicking him repeatedly around the head .
A child viewed all of this and told his father , who summoned the emergency services but it was all to end in disaster and the man died .
The 20 year old gave himself up to the police the following day and then discovered that the car which scratched his did not belong to the dead man at all .
A faulty light fitting at a fun fair in Tabernas , Almeria , caused the death of a 14 year old boy .
The death occurred last Friday evening when the lad touched a cable near the bumper car ride . This cable gave him a severe electric shock .
The local health centre was only 50 metres away and the boy was taken there immediately , but they failed to resuscitate him .
The town hall is now opening an enquiry into the death .
