A shooting in a Marbella ( Costa del Sol )nightspot might have been the result of some type of fued or a ” score settling “.
Two British tourists were injured in the incident in a very upmarket nightclub in the town .
Fighting broke out and then there were two shots . A 49 year old man was shot in both legs , while the extent of the injuries to the second victim remain unclear . A third person needed treatment to a cut hand .

Two resorts in Malaga experienced explosions caused by small bombs attributed to the Basque separatists group ETA.
The first was in Guadalmar near an hotel at about 1pm and the other at a marina car park in Benalmadena , two hours later .
There were no injuries and very little damage . However the police did find a third device and defused it . This was at a bridge on the road leading to Malaga airport .A phone call did warn of explosions and the call was in the name of ETA.
It did cause a lot of hassle as over 10,000 people were evacuated from the harbour at Benalmadena and roads around Malaga were gridlocked for sometime .

Fruit consumption went up by 5% last year but it is still only 14.7 % of all food consumed .
The Costa Blanca , Costa del Sol and Ibiza authorities are going to promote fruit eating by giving away seasonal fruits on their beaches .
Malaga , Alicante , A Coruna and Ibiza are the places where the project is being focused .
Families with children between the ages of 5 and 17 tend to eat less fruit than others .
Pamphlets will be handed out alongside the fruit , extolling all of the virtues of a high fruit diet .

Thirty eight thousand protecrion orders were issued according to information released by the General Council for Judicial Power .
Ninety eight per cent of the aggressors were men and 25,000 of them were Spanish nationals , while 13,000 were foreign .
A recent example of such violence in Malaga saw a man run his wife down in his car , while their 7 year old child watched . The man did test for alcohol, cocaine and cannabis . The wife is recovering .

A quarry near Casarabanela used to be owned by a British company and when they closed it down a promise was made that it would not be opened again .
The quarry is situated in a woodland which is protected by UNESCO near the Sierra de Nieves national park .
The local mayor is now wanting to give out a contract for the quarry to re-open and local residents are up in arms about it .
The mayor says that he is powerless and that this company will sue the town hall if they cannot start mining again . The mayor says that they do not have the financial resources to fight a legal battle .
The group who is fighting this say that they will go to the European Court with their case .

Four fires were started in and around Ronda recently .It is felt that they were started deliberately and so the army has been called in to act as ” fire watchers ”
Two fires in particular near Jimera de Libar and Cortes de la Frontera are being treated with great suspicion .
The four fires destroyed 25 hectares. A youth has been taken in for questioning and it is alleged that he returned to the scene to relight the fires after they had been extinguished .
Thirteen people have been arrested in Malaga province recently on suspicion of starting fires .

Castril Natural Park is one of many attractions in the Granada region and local residents of Castril feel that the park will be destroyed if a government scheme to transfer water from their river to the town of Baza goes ahead.
A demonstration of residents , councillors and an MEP , carrying emotive banners about the saving of their river , took place recently.
Two hundred and twenty litres a second would be pumped from the river if the project goes ahead .
The government wants to install a series of pipes at the mouth of the Castril river , carrying the water to the reservoir which supplies Baza . This will be at a cost of 23 million euros .
Many question the need for such a project in the first place and it should not be a knee jerk reaction to the present drought situation .

The Andalucian village of Competa will be celebrating its 33rd Noche de Vino this weekend .
Up to 8000 people are expected to attend and more than 5000litres of wine will be provided for tasting .
What used to be an evening entertainment has become an all day affair . It begins with grape crushing in the Plaza de la Vendimia and then a street fair promoting local produce begins . This part of Malaga province was one of the first to promote regional food and drink.
As the evening progresses there is a flamenco competition with many well known local dancers participating .
This event has national tourist status and draws in very large crowds .
August 19 in 1487 was the day that the Catholic Queen Isabella set Malaga free from the Moorish rule when she and King Ferdinand rode into the city .
Nowadays it is a very good reason to have a wonderful party and that is just what happens in the town at this time of the year.
It has been described as the greatest street party in Europe .There are two aspects to it , one in the city centre and one in the feria grounds .
It starts with a bang , a spectacular firework display and then a free beach concert with David Bisbal and the Pussycat Dolls.
There is something going on to suit all tastes during the daylight hours and then move on to the fairground at night .
