Denia Club Nautico now has four specially adapted vessels for disabled sailors .

This is more than any other club in the region . Next year , together with  Javea and Fesa they hope to arrange a regional competition .

At the end of last month two EVA adapted sailing teams of Denia’s Club Nautico earned the silver and bronze medals at the Cataluna Championships in Amposta .

This initiative was set up five years ago and has proved a great success .

Last Sunday on the AP7 near Castellon at Oropesa del Mar  a bus carrying people from Almeria to Barcelona crossed the central reservation into oncoming traffic and then careered down an embankment . There was no other vehicle involved .

Eight people  died in the accident and at least 45 were injured .The driver died plus a child . Six of the injured are in a serious condition .It is thought that one of the tyres on the coach may have burst .

Between August 22-24 the historic town of Requena will be host to a medieval market . It will take place in the central square and the streets which surround it .

This is the time of the Fiesta de la Vendimia  , Requenas harvest festival .

There will be over 70 stalls plus all of the other entertainments that one has grown to expect at such fairs —stilt walkers , falconers , even a faquir .

There will also be guided tours of the caves which are found under the Plaza de la Villa .

While on holiday in Gandia  a man from Madrid played the roulette wheel at the Casino there and pocketed almost a quarter of a million euros .

He was spending his summer holiday in the town and only played for an hour and a half last Friday , scooping this historic prize .

The management say that they have never paid out such a large prize before .However , others have had good luck there too and in November a Madrid resident scooped two jackpots in 48 hours winning 36,000 euros .

For the first time in 11 years Gloria Estefan will perform a concert in Spain during the Formula 1 week .

The Cuban singer is due to appear in Valencia on August 22.

The concert is part of her Spanish tour which will take her to Zaragoza on Sepember 12 , before Madrid , Barcelona and Tenerife .

She will perform tracks from her 2007 album with artists such as Carlos Santana and Jose Feliciano .

Her long time backing group ” Miami Sound Machine ” will tour with her .

The green light has been given to the rail link between the Costa de la Luz and Jerez airport. It should only take a year to build the station at the airport but it will take more than two years to complete the track system into the city.

It is hoped that this will coincide with the AVE high speed link between Sevilla and Cadiz in 2012.

At the moment there is no rail link along the whole stretch of coast  south of San Fernando to Algeciras

There is also massive investment in railways in and around Cadiz at  the moment  .

The journey from  Cadiz  to Madrid will be cut from 5hrs to three and a half when it is all completed .

The eighth music festival will take place in Port de la Selva in August .It is known as Sant Pere de Rodes. It is held in the monastry of Sant Pere , one of the most important Roman buildings in Catalunya.

As well as works by the well established composers and artists , younger artists will also participate.

The concerts will take place on Wednesdays and Sundays at 20.00, while the junior artists will perform on Wednesdays at 19.00.

Tickets will cost 15 euros and will include the junior Wednesday concerts .

Roses on the Costa Brava has built a swimming pontoon for 46 six metre boats as a trial project this summer.Up to now only one boat has used it regularly. That is to say , the boat has paid for the mooring during one weekend !

It appears to be a failing of Costa Brava planning to provide sevices at a high cost that no one wants .

It could be that masses of people want such a service and will flock to it once it is known about .

There are so many empty anchorages that it seems obvious that people do not want to pay.

It could be that they would use them if they were less expensive and it could be that many will go to more boat friendly places .

Certainly these moorings are not harming the ecology as they are not being used .

A group of young children were attacked , insulted and stolen from by three British men this week .

Two of the men were leaders at a childrens language camp at Tossa de Mar on the Costa Brava.

The three men , who were drunk at the time and who resisted arrest , were taken into custody by local police .

They were arrested at Club Aire where Sheffield Centre International had rented several bungalows for the English language summer camp .

The police were called in by the father of one of the girls attacked . It appears that they had to lock themselves in the bungalow to avoid being hurt by the men .

An investigation into the incident and the camp is being carried out by the police.

It was a day for expat success at the Elche dog show .

They ( or the dog ) won Best Puppy in show  and their daughter won won group 2.

They have been breeding poodles for 30 years  and since moving to Spain have had five Spanish Champions to add to their many UK champions .

The couple are based in Almoradi and as well as being breeders they also run a boarding kennels , organise pet passports and groom dogs for the 24 hour vets in Benijofar.
