British Embassy and Consular staff throughout Spain attended Remembrance Day services .
In Barcelona there was a ceremony at the Parish Church of St Andrew , near Figueras . It was organised by the Costa Brava Branch of the British Legion .
A service has been held here for the last 12 years and usually more than 100 people attend .
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria a similar service took place at the Holy Trinity Church . The Vice -Consul read the roll of honour at the service .
In Palma , Mallorca it was the British Consul who attended and gave a short reading .

She was born in Palma de Mallorca and has become a singer that once heard isn’t easily forgotten . The fact that she sings in Spanish isn’t a problem .Her name is Concha Buika .
She perceives herself as a jazz singer while others call her style flamenco fusion .
This month she appears at the London Jazz Festival and it is a chance for her to capture a brand new audience .
From childhood singing was part of her life and not only does she sing but she is an instrumentalist too , playing guitar , bass piano and more recently the cello .
Javea Players have chosen the play for their next production . It is ” Let’s Pretend ” by Vanessa Brooks and this Sunday they are doing a reading of the play and anyone who is interested can pop into their Studio Theatre in Javea to listen .
It is also an opportunity to meet the members of the theatre and maybe become a member yourself .
The play is set in Mallorca , in a delapidated hotel frequented by pensioners who live in a pretend world .
This world is set on its head when another couple come to live there too.

This was a first in Spain , a flying race where the pilots have to use their powers of observation and not rely on any electronic aids .
The race took place at Muchamiel airport and those taking part came from as far afield as Palma de Mallorca , Castellon , Pamplona , Lleida and Santander .
The pilots were very closely watched by the judges and lost points if they deviated from the course .
It is hoped that in two years time they will take part in an international event .

The ferry from Denia to Palma de Mallorca was caught in stormy weather last week and arrived at Palma after the port had been closed to ferries wanting to dock .
The ferry had to spend 22 hours being buffeted on the high seas .
There were winds of up to 90 km per hur , which made the whole episode very hazardous and very uncomfortable for the passengers and crew .
Palma and Malaga are its main airports but now Alicante has gained third position with Air Berlin at ” El Altet “.
There will be five direct flights to German airports as well as eight daily flights to Palma . There will also be increased flights to other European airports via Palma .
The new schedules will run from November to April and there is a hope that this cheap airlines prices will fill the 300,000 seats .

Last Monday the Spanish National Court sentenced the ETA terrorist who set off a bomb in a Denia hotel to 17 years in prison .
The bomb was detonated in January 2005 .
The man was found guilty of causing the explosion in Hotel Port Denia , resulting in five people being injured and a great deal of damage to the hotel .
A man and his boyfriend were holidaying on the island of Lanzarote and in the early hours of last Wednesday one of the men stabbed the other twice .
A receptionist had to call the police and the emergency services to his aid .
The injured man was taken to hospital in a serious condition where he underwent surgery .
The other man was arrested on his way to the airport as he attempted to flee the island .

The waters between Africa and the Canary Islands act as a magnet to those who wish to escape to another country and thousands die in their attempt .
Recently over 100 male Africans arrived at La Gomera in a very sad state . Two of the men had died and two more were in a serious condition .
They thought that they could have been at sea for 10 days and their wooden boat could not have survived for much longer with so many aboard .
Two British holiday makers fell from their sixth floor apartment on Gran Canaria last week .
They were both seriously injured , the woman more than the man . He fell on top of her causing her greater damage .They were discovered by the night porter at about 3am and were taken to hospital in Las Palmas .
The couple were on holiday with eight friends and had planned to stay for a week .
Police are now investigating the cause of the accident .
