British Embassy and Consular staff throughout Spain attended Remembrance Day services .
In Barcelona there was a ceremony at the Parish Church of St Andrew , near Figueras . It was organised by the Costa Brava Branch of the British Legion .
A service has been held here for the last 12 years and usually more than 100 people attend .
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria a similar service took place at the Holy Trinity Church . The Vice -Consul read the roll of honour at the service .
In Palma , Mallorca it was the British Consul who attended and gave a short reading .

She perceives herself as a jazz singer while others call her style flamenco fusion .

Javea Players have chosen the play for their next production . It is ” Let’s Pretend ” by Vanessa Brooks and this Sunday they are doing a reading of the play and anyone who is interested can pop into their Studio Theatre in Javea to listen .
It is also an opportunity to meet the members of the theatre and maybe become a member yourself .
The play is set in Mallorca , in a delapidated hotel frequented by pensioners who live in a pretend world .
This world is set on its head when another couple come to live there too.

This was a first in Spain , a flying race where the pilots have to use their powers of observation and not rely on any electronic aids .
The race took place at Muchamiel airport and those taking part came from as far afield as Palma de Mallorca , Castellon , Pamplona , Lleida and Santander .
The pilots were very closely watched by the judges and lost points if they deviated from the course .
It is hoped that in two years time they will take part in an international event .

The ferry from Denia to Palma de Mallorca was caught in stormy weather last week and arrived at Palma after the port had been closed to ferries wanting to dock .
The ferry had to spend 22 hours being buffeted on the high seas .
There were winds of up to 90 km per hur , which made the whole episode very hazardous and very uncomfortable for the passengers and crew .
Last Monday the Spanish National Court sentenced the ETA terrorist who set off a bomb in a Denia hotel to 17 years in prison .
The bomb was detonated in January 2005 .
The man was found guilty of causing the explosion in Hotel Port Denia , resulting in five people being injured and a great deal of damage to the hotel .
Real Mallorca FC has been purchased by a British businessman in a private contract .
He will own 90% of the club in the deal .
The takeover was confirmed this week by the president of the club and now it only needs the final touches by a judge .
The president had hoped that a local company would have made a bid but this was not to be and it is thought that the president will be retained in his position .
A UK citizen has been living in a luxury finca just outside Javea while on the run from the courts in England .
He has claimed that ill health has prevented him from returning to face the music .
He escaped to his home in Spain by breaking his bail agreement . Last year he was arrested in Ibiza and held in Madrid prison but he was released on humanitarian grounds .
This year a doctor has said that he is fit to travel but once again he has evaded the police . In his absence he has been given a four year jail sentence and banned from running any business venture for 10 years .
Not so long ago it was the Iscomar fleet that was having problems but last week it was the turn of the Balearia fleet .
The ferry ” Manuel Azana ” set out from Denia to Ibiza and had to turn back when it was barely out of the port .
The 250 passengers were informed of the mechanical problem and told that they would be transported in a fast ferry service .
In fact they all reached Ibiza more quickly than if they had stayed on the ferry . The original ferry was fixed and made the next journey as scheduled .

A young man who was booked in on that fated flight from Madrid to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands discovered that they didn’t have a seat for him .
He was offered an upgrade , but that to was fully booked , so he had to wait for another flight . He knew nothing of the tragedy until his brother rang him . He thought that he was on that flight and was so relieved to discover what had happened .
There were others who found themselves in similar circumstances , one couple missed the flight by a few minutes and a man decided to fly with another airline because it was 10 euros cheaper .
