British Embassy and Consular staff throughout Spain attended Remembrance Day services .
In Barcelona there was a ceremony at the Parish Church of St Andrew , near Figueras . It was organised by the Costa Brava Branch of the British Legion .
A service has been held here for the last 12 years and usually more than 100 people attend .
In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria a similar service took place at the Holy Trinity Church . The Vice -Consul read the roll of honour at the service .
In Palma , Mallorca it was the British Consul who attended and gave a short reading .

Javea Players have chosen the play for their next production . It is ” Let’s Pretend ” by Vanessa Brooks and this Sunday they are doing a reading of the play and anyone who is interested can pop into their Studio Theatre in Javea to listen .
It is also an opportunity to meet the members of the theatre and maybe become a member yourself .
The play is set in Mallorca , in a delapidated hotel frequented by pensioners who live in a pretend world .
This world is set on its head when another couple come to live there too.

This was a first in Spain , a flying race where the pilots have to use their powers of observation and not rely on any electronic aids .
The race took place at Muchamiel airport and those taking part came from as far afield as Palma de Mallorca , Castellon , Pamplona , Lleida and Santander .
The pilots were very closely watched by the judges and lost points if they deviated from the course .
It is hoped that in two years time they will take part in an international event .

The ferry from Denia to Palma de Mallorca was caught in stormy weather last week and arrived at Palma after the port had been closed to ferries wanting to dock .
The ferry had to spend 22 hours being buffeted on the high seas .
There were winds of up to 90 km per hur , which made the whole episode very hazardous and very uncomfortable for the passengers and crew .
Real Mallorca FC has been purchased by a British businessman in a private contract .
He will own 90% of the club in the deal .
The takeover was confirmed this week by the president of the club and now it only needs the final touches by a judge .
The president had hoped that a local company would have made a bid but this was not to be and it is thought that the president will be retained in his position .
A young man who was booked in on that fated flight from Madrid to Las Palmas in the Canary Islands discovered that they didn’t have a seat for him .
He was offered an upgrade , but that to was fully booked , so he had to wait for another flight . He knew nothing of the tragedy until his brother rang him . He thought that he was on that flight and was so relieved to discover what had happened .
There were others who found themselves in similar circumstances , one couple missed the flight by a few minutes and a man decided to fly with another airline because it was 10 euros cheaper .

The Balearic district of Inca on the island of Mallorca has the highest rate of unemployment for the second year running .
The socialist opposition of the town council is blaming the ruling PP party for doing nothing to rectify the situation .
The socialists want a complete re-think to take place to bring in initiatives to improve the situation .They feel that the situation is less to do with the economic slump and more to do with poor planning on the part of the town hall .
There are no initiatives for new companies to come into the area and those that are there seem to have very little support either .Proof of this they say shows in that not one metre of land has been set aside for industry in the last 13 years.
The socialists want to have meetings with unions , business groups , all political parties and come up with some solutions .

Sixteen fewer people have died on the roads of the Balearic islands this year than last year at the same time .
Evenso that means that 42 people have died this year and 19 of those were under the age of 30. This is a welcome drop of 27%.
More than half of those that died did so on the island of Majorca .As well as the deaths there have 30 injuries to people involved in accidents .
Majorca not only had the highest death rate this year but also last year too.

The Almudaina Palace in Palma, Mallorca , was the meeting place for the King and Queen of Spain to greet the president of Hungary .
The president had been carrying out some official engagements at the International Exhibition in Zaragoza .
Last year the King and Queen paid an official 3 day visit to Hungary where Don Juan Carlos had talks with the president .
The royals are also entertaining the Prime Minister of Spain this week before returning to Madrid at the end of the summer .
