The Red Cross personell often pick up the pieces when things go wrong in our lives . The Javea branch has issued some valuable pieces of advice to those using the beaches in the town .
There have already been a number of drowning deaths on the Costa Blanca , so these warnings need to be heeded .
They want everyone to heed the flag warnings and for people not to swim when the red flags are flying .
They want the young and the elderly not to swim alone , it is dangerous . They also give advice about over exposure to the sun at whatever age , it is not good for us .
Hopefully if people heed this advice then the Red Cross will have les work to do over the summer .

The San Antoni lighthouse in Javea has not gone out in 150 years but it did this August .
It appears that there was a power surge which burned out some of the wiring .
For two hours the light was not so good and then it gave up all together . The systems for protecting against such surges were not functioning , hence the blackout .
As well as providing a warning light , it gives out a navigating beacon and so for that particular night boats were without this provision .
The system was up and running again within 24 hours and everything was back to normal the following night .
Javea town hall is processing requests from 800 young low paid workers for help with paying their rent .
The scheme is only available for Spanish nationals and is a move by the national government to help young people to become more independent .
If young people have their own living space then their is a hope that they will be more self reliant .
The financial help is up to the value of 200 euros .
A 57 year old farmer from the Virgen del Camino district of Orihuela died after his tractor turned over and trapped him underneath .
The man was tilling one of his fields on saturday morning when the accident happened . He was discovered by his wife , who raised the alarm and summoned the emergency services .
Paramedics were unable to resuscitate him and he was pronounced dead at the scene .

A pleasure boat on a trip off the Orihuela coast , found a body floating in the sea .
It was the body of a man of about 30 and it appears that his death was an accident .
The crew of the boat spotted him off La Zenia urbanisation last Tuesday afternoon and called out the emergency services .
The body was recovered by the Red Cross and taken to Cabo Roig.
Police are attempting to identify him . He has a tatoo on his right arm , in Spanish . Post mortem results are awaited .
An unoccupied house in La Nucia collapsed last week without any warning .
The houses on either side of the collapsed house had to be evacuated .
Police very quickly cordoned off the three houses and experts were called in to do a technical survey of the buildings .
No one was hurt in the incident and the residents of the other two houses were allowed to return once it had been established that it was safe to do so .
More is now known about this drowning . A young French mother found her 2 year old son floating face down in the pool of the holiday home that they were renting in Benissa.
She and another relative retrieved the body of the child from the pool and then ran out into the street seeking help.
Police officers just happened to be passing in a patrol car and took the family to the local health care centre but sadly the child was pronounced dead by the medical staff.

A shooting in a Marbella ( Costa del Sol )nightspot might have been the result of some type of fued or a ” score settling “.
Two British tourists were injured in the incident in a very upmarket nightclub in the town .
Fighting broke out and then there were two shots . A 49 year old man was shot in both legs , while the extent of the injuries to the second victim remain unclear . A third person needed treatment to a cut hand .

A car caught fire on Saturday morning in the San Juan tunnel near Alicante . The tunnel was closed for about 45 minutes while fire crews put out the blaze , which was isolated to the engine of the car .
It seems that the driver of a people carrier noticed smoke being emitted from his engine and pulled over to the side of the tunnel about 300 metres from the exit .
Other drivers seeing the large quantity of smoke panicked and started to reverse out of the tunnel , causing havoc .
There were no injuries from the incident but it did cause traffic problems for the rest of the morning .
Today is the fiesta of La Tomatina , the largest tomato fight in the world it appears .
Thousands of people flock to the town of Bunol , near Valencia for this annual jamboree.
The guides do tell you to come dressed appropriately and to cover your eyes and never to stand on a window ledge or on a gate , because you will most definitely become a target for every tomato thrower in the vicinity.
There could be 40,000 of them , so it is very good advice .
